WINDSOR CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOWMrs M HARRIS
Judging: Keeshond, Utility Group
Windsor 2023 – Keeshonds
Thank you to the Society for asking me to judge and to my two able stewards who kept everything flowing smoothly. Some general comments, coats were well presented, teeth were clean but there were some that were borderline level and not a scissor bite. Ring training would benefit one or two to give better performances. Some that look good on the stand just fell apart on the move. You cannot and should not judge this breed on the stand alone and it is not a competition to see which dog can stand still the longest. They need to be moved to assess their conformation as the coat hides many faults such as upright shoulders and over angulated hindquarters. Thanks to my BOB, BP and BV for staying for the Groups which turned out to be an extremely long wait.

I do hate these mixed classes and really don’t see why they cannot schedule a separate class for the bitches.
1st: 6612 HICKSON, Miss Natasha L & HICKSON, Mr Colin Ch Kichigai's Only The Lonley – 8 year old male. Lovely compact male, with a super head and expression. Dark expressive and well set ears. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders and good front. Good spring of rib and short loin. Well curled and carried tail. Brisk mover and balanced outline. Well presented and well marked coat. RDCC, BV and pleased to see him win Group 2 in the Veteran Group.
2nd: 6621 MILES, Mrs Joan & CULLEN, Dr Kristen & CULLEN, Mrs Ch Rossvale's Legacy for Lekkerbek – grand 10 year old of good size and substance. Pleasing head with dark expressive eye, neat well set ears. Well balanced proportions with straight front and neat feet. Good spring of rib and short loin. Well carried tail. Has excellent movement all round just not quite the brisk pace of 1st today.

Class 2632 PD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 6605 AXFORD, Mrs Lisa & SHERWOOD, Mr Steven Watermyth Jewel Of The Nest – 9 month old puppy of good size and overall shape. His head shape is good for his age but would prefer a little more stop. Dark eye of good shape and well used ears. Good length of neck into reasonable shoulders and front with good feet. Well proportioned body with a jacket of good colour and markings. Good topline, well carried tail and reasonable hindquarters. Steady mover. BP and put up a good performance in the Puppy Group.
2nd: 6620 MATTHEWS, Mr David & LEE, Mrs Tracey & MATTHEWS, M Winklestar Deneb at Valindale – slightly older at 10 months. As with 1st his head is still developing but another I would like more stop. Dark expressive eye with an alert expression. A little upright in shoulder, good front and feet. Good topline and strong hindquarters. Would prefer less hind angulation and whether it is a growing phase, when standing and looking at him in profile appears a trifle long in body. Well presented, profuse coat of good markings. Needs to settle on the move and could firm up behind.
Class 2633 JD (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6626 ROSE, Mrs Sharon & ROSE, Mr George Dianakeees Inspector Morse at Esorkees – this boy looks lovely on the stand, of good size, well textured coat and good colour. Pleasing head with eyes of a good shape and colour. Well proportioned body and reasonable front and hind angulation. Need to firm up on the move as a little erratic and not wanting to play the game of being a show dog today, as I was unable to assess his bite.
Class 2634 PGD (1 Entries) Abs: 1
Class 2635 LD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 6617 MARSHALL, Mrs & Mr Vikki & Sean Arabesque at Devonia (Imp Rus) – almost 5 year old masculine male. Pleases for type, colour and overall balance. Has a good head shape, with a dark eye and well placed ears which could be a tad smaller. Could have a slightly softer expression. Strong, good length of neck into a good front with well boned legs. Good spring of rib and short compact body. Well set on tail. Well muscled hindquarters. Excellently presented coat of good texture. Well handled to get the best out of him, pleased to award him the CC.
2nd: 6606 CHURCH, Miss T Shelderon Stemmig Sage With Tykees – 6 year old male of good size. Could have slightly more stop to balance his head Dark well shaped eyes and well set ears. Enough bone for his size but body proportions are slightly too long so doesn’t have the balance of 1st. Well presented and moved well.
Class 2636 OD (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6623 PARKER-REES, Mrs Donna, Neradmik Pearly King – Masculine boy of excellent colour and breed type. Masculine well balanced head with alert expression, good stop, dark eyes and well set ears. Good bone and neat feet. Well sprung in body with high set on tail to give that balanced overall appearance. Nicely boned and moved well in both directions. In well presented jacket of correct colour. Just lost his attention span in the challenge to prevent him going any further.
2nd: 6622 MILES, Mrs Joan & DEAN, Miss Sarah Ch Neradmik Kiss Chase with Lekkerbek – a lovely 8 year old. Not mistaking this masculine boy with a head of good proportions, good stop. Lovely dark expressive and neat well placed ears. Strong neck into well boned straight front and lovely feet. Compact body with good spring of rib and short loin. Well muscled hindquarters and well carried tail. Just didn’t quite match the briskness in movement today as 1st but a very worthy Champion.

1st: 6610 FITCHES, Mr Andrew & FITCHES, Mrs Jean Sofia Loren Della Ginevrina (Imp) It – just out of puppy, she still has some maturing to do but very typical in head and lovely dark, well shaped eye and well set ears. Good in neck and shoulder and stands on good feet. Has a firm topline and strong hindquarters. Slightly long in loin but not overly so and this was the deciding factor in the challenge. Lovely contrasting colour coat of good texture. Such a bundle of mischief. RCC

Similar head properties, good reach of neck and reasonable shoulder placement. Moves wider in front. Good topline and well carried tail. In good condition with well presented coat of good colour.

Class 2641 LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 6624 REDLER, Mr Mark & WHEATLEY, Mr David Keitakees You Are My World – this young lady really caught my eye today. Now back in coat after her junior moult she really looked the part. Not the biggest but has a lovely balanced outline. Good length of neck to well laid shoulders and good front. Well sprung ribs and compact body with short loin. Lovely expression, so alert and well used ears. Enough bone for size and excellent fee. Good colour and markings and well presented coat. Brisk movement and moving well going away and coming towards me. Pleased to award her the CC, her third and BOB. She also gave a good performance in the group.
2nd: 6613 HILL, Mr A Whizzkees Silver Spirit – larger girl but balanced. Not all happy today in these surroundings so not giving of her best performance. Has good overall balance for her size, feminine head and expression. Well presented coat of good texture and well carried tail. Moved steadily around the ring.
Class 2642 OB (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6619 MATTHEWS, Mr David & LEE, Mrs Tracey & MATTHEWS, M Ch Winklestar Aurora at Valindale JW – standing she presents a good overall shape of good balance with her highest tail. Feminine in head but would prefer a slightly softer expression. Dark, well shaped eyes and neat ears which she uses well. Good topline which she holds well on the move. Has a good profile when moving around the ring but moves wide in front.
