WELSH KENNEL  CLUB  BASSET FAUVE DE BRETAGNE.  19TH AUGUST 2023 JUDGE VIVIEN PHILLIPS

It is 7 years since I last judged this breed and I have to say I was concerned by the standard which seems to have regressed,  with some exhibits being  too short on leg and with short upper arms. Tail carriages on a couple of exhibits much too high.. Overall temperaments were good and I was very pleased with my principle winners. 

Veteran Dog  (2 Entries) Abs: 0  1st: Leech’s  Ch & Ir Ch Gavelkind Conquistador By Jamchala VW. Super male of good type. 7 year old.   He has a lovely head with correct ears and the strong not too long neck required. Super ribbing and strong hindquarters with  correct tail set and carriage. He is well muscled and in very good condition which showed in his good movement round the  ring.. Best Veteran and Reserve CC and delighted to see him win the Veteran Hound Group later. 2nd:Allenby’s Ch Rangali Tigger. Another 7 year old of good type.. much of the same applies. Puppy Dog.  (2 Entries) Abs: 0  1st Thornton’s Lantlollans Terrazze Dell'etna to Mochras This young  man was of good size and outline.  He turns a foot infront when stacked.  Ribbing was oK and well enough back. Good coat and moved well on strong hindquarters. I found his head rather fine and  not that masculine, but he was a nice type.. BP  2nd: Stevenson-Bramley’s  Revenite Mr Hudson. This young dog  is short in upper arm and this showed in this front movement.. He is a tad long in body and needs to come up on leg. His ribbing was OK and he had a pleasing head.  Needs more schooling but moved quite well once he had settled. 

Junior Dog  (2 Entries) Abs: 1 Robertson’s Dyfrigis Explosion W with Soletrader. Wow!! Here is  a star in the making.. Super  outline.. absolutely correct for type and size. Lovely head , eye and leathers. Well laid shoulders and  correct ribbing and body length. Correct tail set and carriage which he used very well on the move. Good parallel hindquarters. This is what I look for in a BFDB.. CC and BOB. Must have a great future.  Breeders should   take heed. 

Post Graduate dog  No Entries

Limit Dog  (2 Entries) Abs: 0 1st: Jones’ Laserna’s Greatest Showman JW. Good for size and outline  if a little dippy in topline . He has a good head and leathers. Correct shoulders and feet.. well ribbed.. Moved well with correct hind angulation. 2nd: Revens & Hyde Beabass Simeon This dog is too short on leg   and upper arm.  Pleasing head and leathers.  Moved out at elbow. Hind movement is OK

Open Dog  (3 Entries) Abs: 0 1st:Perry’s  Ch Blevwil Nick Nack Sh.CM. I believe I have judged this 7 year old dog before and liked him for overall type and outline. Good front and feet. Pleasing head and eye, correct leathers. Plenty of forechest and he is well ribbed. . Moved   well .2nd:Wederell’s Rangali Jedi Master He Is. This dog  has a good head and leathers.. But he is short in upper arm and out at elbow which showed on the move. Well ribbed and in good coat.  Moved oK in hindquarters.3rd: Carter’s Gouvier Espresso Martini JW

Veteran Bitch  (1 Entries) Abs: 0 Jones’  Multi Ch Laserna Storm In a Teacup  JW VW  I have  judged this 8 year old bitch before  and awarded her  the reserve CC from Junior. She is a lovely type with a  sweet feminine head.  Nice leathers. She has correct shoulders and good feet..  Well filled in forechest.  Ribbing sufficient and she moved quite well but dippy in topline.  Correct tail set and carriage

Puppy Bitch  (2 Entries) Abs: 0 Stevenson-Bramley’s Revenite Mrs Bridges.  This youngster was unsettled to begin with but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and she did settle in  a  very noisy tent. She has a good head and leathers… Nice for  size , 8 months old and still quite a raw baby.  She has good ribbing and hindquarters with correct tail. Needs to come up on leg, but she has plenty of knuckle.  Moved OK. 2nd:  Allenby’s  Rangali French Fancy  This bitch has a nice head and leathers.  She is a tad short in upper arm and comes towards you rather close… Her body is of correct length and ribbing is OK but she stands rather bum high at present. Hope that will settle. 

Junior Bitch  (4 Entries) Abs: 1 1st:  Leech’s  Mochras Mahmalade by Jamchala  14 Month youngster of good type and size.  She has a feminine head and good leathers.  Correct shoulders and length of neck.  Ribbing goes sufficiently well back and she moved  well.2nd:  Evans’  Shiroblam Solar Flair For Liandev. Another  good type youngster of 13 months. Pleasing head and correct   leathers.  Good  body shape and size and sufficiently up on leg. . Moved OK. 3rd:  Carter’s  Rangali Booty Licious

Post  Graduate Bitch  (2 Entries) Abs: 0 1st:  Leech’s  Mochras Mahmalade by Jamchala

2nd: 3021 CARTER, Mrs Amanda Rangali Booty Licious This young bitch is too  low on leg and short in upper arm.  She has a nice head  and leathers.   Loose in elbow in  front movement. OK behind.

Limit Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 1 1st:  Thornton and Leech’s  Mochras Mahgaux JW  This bitch has a good head and correct leathers.. She is a tad upright in shoulder and turns her feet out when stacked.  Her coat is of correct texture but rather profuse. She is well ribbed and has correct set of tail. She moves rather close behind. 2nd:  Hills’  Rangali Gretel at Shimmeree This bitch has a nice head and leathers   are  correct. She is  deep in brisket but rather cut up behind the elbow, so could have a longer ribcage.. She  therefore appears heavy in front quarters but could have more angulation in her hindquarters. 

Open Bitch  (6 Entries) Abs: 0 Thornton & Leech’s Ch Mochras Mahcushla Ir J Ch . This bitch looked far heavier than she is when she entered the ring as she has quite a profuse coat and  in my opinion could have it tidied a bit.  Having said this, she has a lovely head and leathers.. correct neck and shoulders and  good feet and forechest. She is well ribbed. Her size is good and  angulation in hind quarters is excellent. She has a lovely fat tail correctly set and carried.  She moved well round the ring very soundly. CC  2nd:  Allenby’s  Ch Rangali Yum Yum . Nice type 3 year old  with a good head and leathers… Well laid shoulders and  very well ribbed.  For my taste I would prefer her another couple of centimetres in leg length. She has a good body of correct length. Moved well if a little closer infront than the winner.. Res CC 3rd:  Ellrich’s  Ch Malrich Frankincense. I must say this bitch was a lovely type but not helping her handler today when stacked.
