The Scottish Kennel Club MAY Championship Show

16/05/2024

Poodle (Miniature)

Thank you to SKC for honouring me with this appointment. My first set of CCs in Miniatures that I was really looking forward to, with being my size. I cannot thank the exhibitors who entered under me enough for making this appointment memorable with such beautiful examples of our breed. A few tough decisions were made in some classes, and I am sorry I could not please you all. Bites were all correct and it was encouraging to see so many new faces since I was last in the ring 4 years ago. Thank you to my steward for keeping the ring flowing.

PD (6)

A lovely class.

1. Hunter & Murphy’s Silvora Cristal Star. What a handsome 7mth star he is! He caught my eye with his typical square outline & he did not disappoint once I got my hands on him. He has a masculine head with good chin, of course he is still very much a baby, but I am sure his head will mature to quite a masterpiece. His almond dark eye has that mischievous glint that I love to see. His long thick leathers complete the framework. He has a long neck onto laid back shoulders & compact body. He is nicely balanced in his angulations fore & aft & stands on great feet. His tail is set on high. He suits his tighter trim, tailored to perfection, which shows off his attributes as he moves out with drive around the ring. An exciting puppy that I am sure has a promising future. BPD, RDCC & BPIB.

2. Lee-Morris’s Michandy It's Showtime at Pupstar. Another stylish 11mth old dog with a lot to like. He has a long-refined head of correct proportions, dark eye & long leathers. His strong neck leads to a great body with correct angulation fore & aft. He moved out well. He was just unfortunate to meet 1 today.

3. Young’s Chesterhill Oceans Orca at Anorien

JD (1,1)

PGD (1)

1. Lister’s, Calmaric All in One. This 19mth old dog looks lovely stacked. He has a lovely head & eye with a melting expression. His neck is long & he is nice to go over. Good shoulders & nicely angulated hindquarters which enable him to drive on the move.

LD (3)
1. Brook’s Sculbrook Had to Be a Miracle.! Wow! Exactly what I was looking for! When going over him, his exquisite masculine head & expression, framed by long thick leathers excites you & then when going down his long strong neck to his compact body with depth of chest, you can feel he really is the full package. He is upstanding & well balanced throughout. He has correctly angulated fore & hindquarters & stands on tight feet. He moved out effortlessly holding his proud carriage. His presentation was flawless & he was expertly handled. Delighted to award him the DCC, his third I hear, & BOS. Congratulations on your new Champion. There is still lots of fun to be had with this fabulous young dog.

2. Priestley’s Joleena's His Excellency, a taller impressive dog who has a lot of qualities. He has a lovely head of correct proportions, & his dark expressive eyes are full of fire. He is nice to go over, but I would like to see him firm up in his front assembly. He stands on great feet & his tail set is correct. On the move he had a tendency to poke his head forward which took it away from showing his proud carriage. He was beautifully tailored to show his attributes.

3. Brown’s UK Lowashton Ebb Tide

OD (2)
1. White’s Ch Chesterhill Easy Lover. Oh, what a clown this dog is! Its easy to see why he is a Champion, but he does not half make his handler work hard. My notes say, “Takes having fun to the extreme!” He is an upstanding dog with a pleasing masculine head with chiselling. He is nice to go over & has a short compact body with great tail set. He has balanced angulation fore & aft that when he does stop going at full speed shows off true poodle movement with proud carriage. I hoped he would have run some of his batteries out for the challenge, but I think he found some spares! He was expertly tailored & has a great coat texture.

2. Grace & Twaddle’s Nacado's Daisuki for Bewitching Stars at Sasilasy (Imp It)

A different type to 1 but a lot to like about him too. He has a long-refined head with dark eyes & a good chin. His neck is long & leads to his strong body which is short in back. He is well angulated & moves with plenty drive. His coat has great texture.

 VD (1)
1. Wylie’s Arcaneon Rising Rivals. I loved how this dog & handler work together as a team. This black dog is almost 8yr old. He has a pleasing head & dark eye. He has long leathers. His long neck leads onto his strong body which was nicely tailored. He has pleasing angles & moves out well. BVD

PB (6,1)

A lovely class with promising puppies at different stages.

1. Kitchener’s Michandy Sign of The Times what a pretty little package this brown is at 11mths old. Stacked she presents a typical square outline. She has a feminine head with super chin, great pigment & the sweetest expression, yet her dark amber eye shows she has that typical mischievous streak. She has a great body with good, developed chest & is nice to go over. She stands on tight feet. She holds her shape & is balanced on the move. Her coat already has great texture. She is sure to have an exciting show career. BPB & RBCC

2. Keenan’s Sleepybrook Spice Up Ur Life another pretty feminine girl with a lot to like about her. She has the prettiest of heads, beautifully chiselled with lovely expression. She has a dark almond eye & long leathers. Super long neck onto correct shoulders. I would like to see her tighten up more in front. Stands on tight feet. She moves well with drive. Her coat is expertly tailored showing off her attributes. Will watch her career with interest.

3. Pinder’s Starianna Jessie Jay with Starmarla

JB (0)

PGB (3,1)

1. Watt & Bruce’s Donaska Tilted Halo. A bigger bitch albeit under the measure. She has such a pretty head with dark eyes full of fire and the sweetest expression. She is well bodied with good depth of chest & straight front. She has great feet & tail set. She presents such a typical outline stacked & retains her proud carriage on the move. She moves gracefully with drive. She has a beautiful coat in tip top condition. I really liked her & considered her for the RCC

2. Kirk’s Babalangio Flora. A smaller girl with a feminine refined head. She is short in back & has a good body with depth of chest. She is correctly angled fore & aft, & she moves effortlessly with reach & drive. Her handler collaborates well with her to get the best from her.

LB (3)
1. Thirlaway’s Donaska Pussy Galore. This pretty brown catches your eye with her typical square outline. She has a pretty refined head with dark amber eye & great pigment. She has thick leathers. Her long neck leads onto a her cobby body with well laid shoulders & straight front. Her hindquarters are nicely angled. With her correct conformation she moved gracefully around the ring, however she had a tendency to look up to her handler which made her lift her front legs a little too high. Her crisp coat was tailored to perfection.

2. Grady’s Natica Day Dream Believer, bl 4yr old with a feminine head & dark eye. A shorter clipped face would show her expression better. She is well bodied & nicely angulated. Id like to see her with more trimmed off underneath as the extra coat makes her look short in leg, which she is not. She moved with purpose.

3. Fraser & Rae-Fraser’s Lowashton Rumbling Kern

OB (4,0)

A beautiful class.

1. Wells’s Volgarus Candid Clara. My star of the day! Such a stunning example of the breed! She demands attention & oozes poodle attitude. She has an exquisite feminine head with excellent chin & super dark pigment, her dark almond eye is full of mischievous fire. Her long reachy neck leads to the best of shoulders. Her muscular body has a deep chest and well sprung ribs. She is just so well balanced throughout with great muscle tone. She stands on excellent tight feet. On the move she held her proud carriage & she moved so gracefully not putting a foot wrong. Her crisp coat was trimmed to perfection which made her the full package. I would not change a thing about her. I was surprised to hear it was only her 2nd CC as she is simply magnificent. I was delighted she gained her crown at the second show on the day as it was very much deserved! Congratulations! BCC & BOB

2. Keenan’s Sleepybrook Go Ur Own Way. Another beautiful example of the breed. Her head is so pretty & feminine & of correct proportions. She presents a beautiful outline stacked & is really nice to go over. I would prefer tighter feet but that is only one thing. She is nicely angled & when she moves, she holds her carriage & is really eye catching. I loved her trim which suits her & shows her elegance.

3. Holmes-Leak’s Ch Joleena's in Excelsis with Navarre JW. At first glance she looks heavy, but she is really nice to go over. She is such a pretty girl & I would love to see her in a tighter trim to show off the elegance & attributes that she has.

VB (1)
1. Lister’s Calmaric One for The Money JW. This 8yr old black has such a great colour & coat texture. She has a pretty head of correct proportions, & her chiselling gives her that sweet expression. She has a long neck & is well bodied. She moved out well holding her topline & carriage. BVB & BVIB.

SBB (4)
1. Kirk’s Babalangio Flora (see 2nd PGB) Delighted to hear she won SBG2 at the May show & won SBG1 in the second show. Congratulations.

2. Pinder’s Starianna Jessie Jay with Starmarla. She is a pretty 7mth old black but is still very raw at this stage. She has a good dark eye & chin. She is nicely angled & just needs to firm up & settle on the move which will come with age.

3. Fraser & Rae-Fraser’s Rumbling Kern

 GCB (1)
1 Hutton’s Natica Chocolate Surprise. 4 yr. old brown, she is well bodied & muscular throughout. She looks nice stacked. I would prefer a more feminine head. She moved well & enthusiastically with her handler.
