Judging: Hound Group, Saluki

This was my second occasion to judge Salukis this year. I had a very nice entry in Finland in July & most certainly some of my top winners from Finland could hold their own in the UK ring. The same goes for many of my winners today.  Although the entries have reduced there still is a nice depth of quality in the ring & I had some really nice dogs to assess. I really wanted good movement & well muscled Sighthounds. Unfortunately today some dogs were not preforming with enough drive nor had powerful muscles required for an athletic dog to hunt all day over all sorts of terrain. Thank you everyone for entering your hounds & it was so nice that so many of you came to chat afterwards. Delighted to hear my CC/BOB Ch Jay Jp Sea Bird El Panjsher JW (Imp) topped a very strong Hound Group.

1st:  WARNER, Ms Nicola & LAYTON-SMITH, Mrs Diane Kushiel Freespirits Sirrush (Imp USA)  Very nice red-sable boy just 9 months old, nice outline & balance still very immature but has good promise.

Class 1793 PD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3743 CANNON WICKSTEAD, Miss Mr Miss Freya Mark Dawn CARYNA STEPHANO TO ABAYOMI

Very nice cream boy. Substantially built, pleasing head, good eye & bite, maybe a little short in ear. Well made & fitting front, good shoulder placement. Looking slightly long in body today, good ribbing caried well back, broad loin. Correct pin bones, good tail set & croup. Well angulated HQs & nice strong, well let down hocks & good  muscle . Moved out very well. To be critical I did feel his bones are slightly rounded.

Class 1795 YD (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st:  CHIPPENDALE, Ms Oxana Flytesfield Hyddwn

Very moderately angulated Fawn -Sable dog, 19 months old, pleasing head & eye. Overall he has a very balanced outline & everything fits in & gives a good impression while he is stacked . He has nice bone & adequate pastern angulation & good feet. Rather flat in croup & he does fly his tail on the move. Hopefully in time he will relax more in the ring which should improve his movement too.

Class 1796 PGD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st:  SCHAFER, Mrs Annette Tin Soldier

Very lightly built 3 year old Silver-grizzle male a true gazelle. Sweet head, good eye & ears, would like a stronger underjaw. Good neck going into well laid shoulders & moderately filled front, rather straight upper arm & pastern. Nicely let down HQs. He does have a rather short croup & he was flying his tail on the move, & generally his movement was unbalanced. I understand his forte is in the hunting field.

Class 1797 LD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: STRONG, Mr M & STRONG, Mrs J Shahzad Zaki Ter Dolen (Imp Bel]

Very elegant parti dog, lovely type & balanced outline. Very nice head with super pigmentation, well set ears.  Very well-made front assembly with nicely laid shoulders & well filled front. Nice, crested neck going into a good body with correct depth of chest, good top & bottom lines. Very nicely angulated & muscled HQs. Feet a bit flat. Very nice side view movement & extension but can look a touch wide in front & rear coming & going.

2nd: 3755 HEPBURN, Ms Jane QATIIFAH DAHR DAMYAR AT AZABA (IMP NOR)

Very stylish red dog, I found his head a bit strong & widish in skull. Excellent neck going into well angulated shoulders with a filled front. He is a bit long in loin. He has nicely angulated & strong rear but today was not moving with the strength & drive he would need out galloping, catching prey.

Class 1798 OD (5 Entries) Abs: 0
1st:  ALDOUS, Ms L & GLAISTER, Mrs J Ch Jay Jp Sea Bird El Panjsher JW (Imp)

Lovely elegant yet very masculine cream dog, really coming to his best at 5 years old, who took the ring by storm today. He is so well put together with balance throughout from his elegant correctly balanced head good eye & ear to his strong neck which you could see easily picking up his prey. Excellent shoulders, good upper arm & filled front going into a lovely strong, balanced body, ribbing carried nicely back. Good top & bottom lines & correct tail set. Nicely angulated, strong, muscular hqs with strong, low hocks. Moving he really covers the ground with easy strides & balance. I was privileged to award him his the CC/BOB & later I understood he won the Hound Group. Ccongratuations.

2nd:  HARDING, Mrs Cathy & COWLEY, Miss Naomi Ch Classicus Odysseus at Ashahni. Impressive masculine 4 year old red grizzle . Very nice type, strong head with punishing jaw, very pleasing expression. Well made & angulated front assembly, good body & nice depth of chest & ribbing carried well back. So lots of lung space for a day’s hunting. Good top & bottom line.s feet a touch flat.   A little flat in croup & not the best tail & would prefer more angulation in rear. But he is a very sound mover showing of good side extension but a little loose in front. Res Dog CC.

Super sound, cream 9 year old Veteran, lovely correct type throughout. Very pretty head with super eyes with that faraway look. Well laid shoulders & enough upper arm & filled front. Good neck going into a well-made body, good top & bottom lines. Strong muscled rear with well let down second thigh, which she really shows off on the move. Covering our large ring with good extension super side view & as sound as a bell coming & going….Pleasure awarding her BVIB.

Class 1801 MPB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: ALECOCK, Miss Megan Jarlettes Special Lover

A real little red beauty just 9 months old, adorable expression, head a little full in eye. Nice front assembly & starting to fill in nicely in front, she still has some letting down to do. Good bone & feet pleasing top & bottom lines. Broad croup, strong HQs well let down hocks.  At first, she was a little apprehensive but as time went on she was enjoying her day at the show & most certainly proving her happiness moving out so soundly & well.

Class 1803 JB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st:  WOOLMER, Dr Olga AL NAFISEH IVORY PEARL

Gorgeous type shape & make, super head & eye, good neck going into nice angulated & filled front.  She has adequate bone & nice depth of chest of body with good lung room. Very shapely HQs with a good croup. Unfortunately she was slightly favouring (only slightly) her left hind leg, so her movement was a bit unbalanced…

Class 1804 YB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: HARDING, Mrs Cathy & COWLEY, Miss Naomi Classicus Florentia at Ashahni . Parti black & white girl very balanced outline length to height, just maturing at 21 months old. Strong foreface, good bite, a little wide in skull. Pleasing front with a nice upper arm. Good neck & depth of chest, good bone & feet,  a bit soft in topline. Well-muscled, strong, HQs well let down hocks which she really used well moving, handled to perfection.

Class 1806 LB (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st:  WILLIAMS, Mr & Mrs CM & HV Luachmhar Jadira Kasaque

Very shapely quality black/tan girl, 2 years old. Compact shape, pleasing head & eye, would prefer a stronger under jaw. Very nice strong neck fitting into excellent shoulder & front. Lovely coat & feathering. Nice broad croup & good tail. Moderately angulated HQs with a good second thigh,  well let down hocks. I am sure she excels herself out hunting but today she was slightly lazy moving in the ring,  never the less quality throughout.

2nd:  FISHER, Mrs Karen RUWEIS MALAHAH

Very nice type of cream feathered girl, coming 4 years old. Very pleasing head with a lovely correctly shaped, dark eye . Good strong neck going into a well-made front. Nice dept of chest but cuts up a bit in her underline & slopes off a bit in her croup. And for perfection would like a bit more HQ angulation. She did move out very nicely holding her shape & covering the ground with ease, well handled.

3rd: 3767 WOOLMER, Dr Olga Al Nafiseh Flowering Sage

Class 1807 OB (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st:  GARRATT, Mrs Denise & OAKEY, Miss Sharon Caryna Esperanza

This girl, a cream 4 year old lady, is a perfect combination of substance & elegance with all the desired Saluki characteristics. Pleasing head with good eye, expression & bite. Strong neck going into well laid shoulders, nicely filled forehand & return of upper arm. She has nice depth of chest & strong well muscled body, with ribs carried well back . Good width over the pelvis & nice tailset. Good top & bottom lines & overall a very balanced outline with no exaggeration. Strong, functional HQs full of supple muscles.  Obviously she is used to plenty of exercise. Her movement is ultra sound, very nice side view extension & moved around the ring with easy strides.  Delighted to award her the CC & later heard that today she became a worthy Champion.

2nd: HAMILTON, Ms N Lux Ch Int Ch Alishamar Roxane (Imp Bel) JW

This lady I thought wow !!!! She is gorgeous, nearly 5 years old  grizzle , lovely type with such a lovely head & expression, always looking into the horizon. Nicely filled & angulate front with adequate dept of chest. She can stand looking a little flat over the loin, . Good croup & tail set and strong muscular angulated HQs, low strong hocks… So I was looking forward to see her gliding with easy action around our ring, but unfortunately today this lovely lady got bored & decided that she would not put much effort into showing off herself on the move. Still happy to award her the Res CC .
