Thank you to the Committee for the invitation to judge at your prestigious show and to the exhibitors for entering under me and accepting my decisions in a sporting manner. Another thanks must also go to my stewards, Colin and Ian, for helping in running the ring in a smooth and efficient manner.
Most dogs were presented very well, in super coat and condition, with some very well-muscled exhibits, which is a credit to their owners. As a Breeder and exhibitor, I’m more than aware of the time and money that goes into our hobby and hence (as you should) I judged the dogs as I found them on the day. Perhaps on another day, with different performances and conditioning, some placements could change. I was very pleased with my main winners and had a lovely day judging your dogs.

1st: 4508 AUSTEN, Miss Mandy NORBURYLOU KARIAS STAR. Strong and substantial puppy dog, who is maturing along the right lines. Lovely strong round bone and nice tight feet. Strong masculine head with a nice kind dark eye. Broad flat skull and strong muzzle, but would prefer tighter lips. Enough length of neck and ok for shoulder placement and upper arm. Good breadth of body and nice deep chest. A little long in the loin and need to watch topline at times, lovely rounded rump and balanced rear angulation. In the class he was clean on the move with an easy active stride for a strong puppy dog. He had the correct rear drive from his nice firm hocks; although a little too much body roll in profile movement. Presented immaculately in lovely coat and condition. Lovely, outgoing character.

1st: 4513 BRIDGES, Mrs Shandy Pol KRIMM BERNENSKA SFORA AT KERNOW (imp Pol). Unassuming male who really grew on me the more that I saw of him. A cobby dog with very correct overall breed type and proportions. Strong broad muzzle and skull, yet not overdone and all in proportion. Nice kind dark almond-shaped eyes and a really kind and melting expression. Nice tight eyes and lips, correct ear size and placement. Lovely round bone, straight front legs and tight cat-like feet. Good reach of neck leading into well-placed shoulder, just a touch short in upper-arm. Good breadth of body, firm in back and a nice deep chest. Correct coat and texture, with the usual frustrating wave, which can make the topline look a touch dippy, however he was level in back on hands-on examination. Nice and compact in the loin with correct ribbing. Lovely rounded rump, correct tail-set and carriage. Enough rear angulation and nice firm hocks. Very sound on the move, with good extension and rear drive; clean from all angles. In the challenge this young dog upped his game and impressed me even more for his correct breed type and movement to go on and win his first Dog CC, Congratulations.

1st: 4510 BRAMBLE, Mrs Julie & BRAMBLE, Mr Michael Nelstephbern me and my boy with shirdees. Sound and balanced young male with lovely overall shape and correct proportions. Broad muzzle and just enough breadth of skull. Nice kind almond-shaped eyes. Adequate bone and nice tight feet. Medium length of neck. Shoulder and overall front construction OK. Balanced in body and nice and compact in loin with correct ribbing. Lovely rounded rump and correct tail set. I would prefer a little more strength and substance for a male, but hopefully this will come with time and maturity. He has a super rear and nice short firm rear pasterns. Very sound on the move, with an easy and active gait, really driving from his rear and extending in profile, which won him the class. Presented and handled well with a lovely character and disposition.
2nd: 4529 MEAKIN, Mrs Rachael Clare & MEAKIN, Mr Paul Salentum Terrae Balu (IMP ITA). Different type than first place and I did prefer his overall size and substance, but not quite as together on the move. Good length of leg and correct proportions. Strong masculine head with a nice broad flat skull and strong muzzle. Full dentition, but level bite. Lovely dark almond-shaped eye and kind expression. Enough length of neck, however a little steep in shoulder placement. Lovely round bone and nice tight feet. Good depth of chest and nice and firm in his body and loin. Level topline, lovely rounded rump and good rear-angulation leading to nice firm hocks. Moved ok, although not as sound on the move as first place. Presented in immaculate condition and handled well.

1st: 4532 O'TOOLE, Mrs Deborah & O'TOOLE, Mr John Fortonpark Talk Of The Town. Upstanding, strong and substantial male of correct breed type and overall shape. All male. Super bone and feet. Strong masculine head with a good muzzle and broad flat skull. Full dentition, but another with a level bite. Good length of neck, leading into well-placed shoulder and upper-arm. Nice broad back, good spring of rib and body. Firm, level-topline and lovely rounded rump. Good rear-angulation and well-let down hocks. Extended well on the move with good reach in front. Could just be a bit firmer in hock and a little cleaner coming towards at times, moved cleaner in the class than in the challenge and here, he won on his masculine breed type and correct balanced angulation with extension on the move.
2nd: 4516 COOKE, Mrs Penny & STEVENS, Mr James Tickbern Yardhand. Well balanced male of good size and proportions, who was very attentive to his handler and easy on the move. Nice almond-shaped eyes and kind expression. Broad flat skull, but I would prefer a broader muzzle and tighter lips. Correct ear set and size, used well. Enough reach of neck leading to moderate front angulation and straight front legs. Nice tight feet. Good depth of chest, well-ribbed and firm and compact in his loin. Level topline and correct croup. Would prefer more rear angulation for correctness; but in balance with his front and hopefully his angulation will improve with age, as he develops and drops into his body. However, his balanced angulation front and back enables him to move with an easy, active and balanced gait. Moved ok coming towards, active in profile, nice and firm in hock, moving true from the rear. Presented in good condition.

1st: 4524 MANIX, Mrs Abbie WALDERSHELF FAME'N FORTUNE. In the class, this cobby male looked completely spot on and here I thought he would be my CC winner. Excellent overall shape and outline, with correct proportions and angulation. Strong masculine head, with dark almond-shaped eye. Very good to go over on hands on exam with good length of neck, leading into well-placed shoulder and good length and return of upper-arm. Lovely bone and tight cat-like feet. Strong broad back, good depth of chest, well-ribbed and firm in loin. Correct croup and good rear angulation. Very sound on the move, really reaching out in front and driving from the rear from his firm hocks. I would just prefer a little more size for a male dog. Presented immaculately and stacked to perfection. In the Challenge, after cutting down to my top 2 males, I found them both similar in shape and stature, but I did prefer the head and expression of the yearling dog, who then just pipped him to the post on the move, as Fame n’ Fortune started to flag and hence the final decision was made. Should make a worthy Champion and has really come into his own; pleased to award him the Reserve CC.
2nd: 4519 COTTON, Mr D & Mrs N Kernow Billy No Mates at Jukesbern. Very much the showman. Nice overall type and shape to this male with correct breed type and proportions. Good for size and substance. Lovely strong masculine head, with broad muzzle and skull and nice kind dark eyes. Correct ear size and set. Enough reach of neck, but would prefer more front angulation. Good bone and nice tight feet. Nice and broad in back, well-ribbed and firm in the loin with a level topline. Correct rear angulation, with good turn of stifle. This male was very sound on the move with good extension in profile and driving from his firm well let-down hocks. Clean movement overall and holds his shape in profile. Although not quite on the same form that I have seen him previously, he would have been a contender for top honours had the Open Dog won the CC.

1st: 4505 AKEHURST, Miss Emma Jane & BRIDGES, Mrs Shandy Ch Kernow All My Loving VW. Very beautiful 9 year old bitch, who is still completely in her prime and in immaculate condition. The perfect combination of breed type, construction and soundness. She ticked every box for me and completely balanced. Lovely overall shape and outline; very correct to go over for conformation. Lovely kind nature and disposition. Breed typical head and expression which was strong, yet feminine. Lovely dark almond shaped eyes, a broad muzzle and flat skull. Correct ear set and size. Good length of neck leading into a super forehand, with well-placed shoulders and good length and return of upper-arm. Well-off for bone and nice tight round feet. Correct prosternum, good depth of chest and well-ribbed. Firm in loin. Level topline and lovely rounded rump and tail-set. So sound on the move, clean from every angle and with the desired reach and drive. Could not fault her. Last time I judged in the UK, she was my Reserve CC Winner and Best Veteran in Breed…just like a fine wine, she has matured even more beautifully (if it was possible) to take the Bitch CC, Best of Breed/Best Veteran in Breed and huge congratulations on her going on to win Veteran Working Group 1! What a great achievement for a 9 year old Bernese Mountain Dog and a complete credit to both her breeder and owner.

1st: 4522 KRJUKOVA, Miss Elina ELBRUSBERN AURORA. Very pretty baby developing along the right lines. Friendly, outgoing character. Lovely overall shape and outline, with correct proportions. Nice pigment and colouring. Head developing ok, although a little long in muzzle at this stage and head needs to broaden. Kind expression with correct almond-shaped eyes. Enough neck, but a little steep in front at the moment, which will hopefully improve with maturity as she drops into her body. Nice bone for size and correct pro sternum. Good depth of chest, firm and compact in loin. Lovely rounded rump and balanced rear angulation. Very easy and active on the move, just needs a little more fore-reach, but clean and with drive from her firm hocks. Presented in immaculate condition.

1st: 4523 KRJUKOVA, Miss Elina ELBRUSBERN BOLD LEGACY. Very typey puppy bitch, of good size and substance for her age. Good proportions and overall shape. Full of quality. Strong yet feminine head, with a lovely expression. Quite steep in front angulation at present, which as per her kennel mate will hopefully improve as she matures. Lovely bone and feet. Level topline and lovely rounded rump. Good rear angulation and well let-down hocks. Could be cleaner coming towards, but sound in profile and firm rear movement. In immaculate condition and well-presented. Not quite as confident as her kennel mate, but I preferred her more correct breed type and substance, which made her Best Puppy Bitch, she then beat the male on firmness in body and was more together on the move in the challenge to become Best Puppy In Breed.

1st: 4536 SUTTON, Mrs Joanne & DAVENPORT-WILLIS, Mrs Helen Nelstephbern Dior By Design. Very glamorous and attractive bitch, with a beautiful shape and outline. Correct proportions. Pretty head and expression with a dark kind eye. Good breadth of muzzle and broad flat skull. Good reach of neck leading to acceptable shoulder placement, but a touch short and steep in upper-arm. Adequate bone and nice straight front legs. Good depth of chest and nice broad back, with good spring of rib and firm in loin. Lovely rounded rump and good rear angulation, leading to well let-down firm hocks. Could be cleaner coming towards, but moved well in profile, with extension, and lovely rear movement. Presented in immaculate condition and moved better when she settled in the challenge, hence made the final cut to the final 4 bitches and was considered for top honours.

Excelled in size and substance with nice dark pigmentation and eye colour. Strong yet feminine head, with a kind expression. Enough length of neck, but quite steep in shoulder placement and upper-arm. Lovely strong round bone and feet. Well-proportioned. Lovely breadth of body, nice and firm in her loin leading to a well rounded rump. Moved well in profile, with an easy and active stride but a touch wide coming and going. Hopefully with maturity she will drop into her body and settle into herself. Presented in immaculate condition

1st: 4514 COOKE, Mrs Penny & STEVENS, Mr James Tickbern Yes I Can Yodel. Very correct and sound bitch with a lovely overall shape. Pretty head and expression with dark almond-shaped eye and broad flat skull. Good length of neck leading to well-placed shoulder and good return of upper-arm. Lovely round bone and nice tight round feet. Correct proportions with good depth and breadth of chest. Well-ribbed and firm in the loin. Well-rounded rump leading to correct tail set. Well-angulated rear and firm, well let down hocks. Could have been handled better, as sometimes did not look so great on the stack, but on hands-on examination, I found her to be very correct to go over and this pleased me greatly. This bitch floated around the ring with super extension in profile and the correct reach and drive. Her correctness and sound front construction secured her the Reserve CC amongst some good company.

1st: 4520 GREEN, Mr Stephen & GREEN, Mrs Jeanette & ENGLISH, Waldershelf Gin and Tonic. Loved the Strength and substance of this bitch and she oozed quality. Presented immaculately and well-handled to present a very stylish shape and outline. Feminine head with broad flat skull, but would prefer darker eyes and smaller ears to improve upon her expression. Good reach of neck, but quite steep through the shoulder and upper-arm. Lovely strong round bone and nice round and compact feet. Good depth of chest and nice and broad in her back. Ok for proportions, with good length of leg. Well-rounded rump and well-angulated rear leading to her firm hocks. Does short-step a little in front, but clean coming towards, tidy in profile movement and has a lovely rear, with super drive. Her overall soundness along with substance and her quality outline, which was held on the move, ensured she was among the top 4 bitches of the day.

1st: 4534 SOKEL, Mrs Cheryl Kernow Blue Lagoon. Substantial bitch with nice overall breed type and correct overall shape. Strong yet feminine head with a nice broad muzzle and flat skull. Would prefer a darker and less round eye. Enough reach of neck leading into acceptable shoulder placement. Lovely bone and substance. Good depth and breadth of chest. Nice and broad in back, just slightly long through the loin. Well-rounded rump and balanced rear angulation. Looked a little matronly and not quite as active on the move as her competitors in the challenge. Quite clean on the move coming and going, with some fitness and more polish to presentation and performance she could be more competitive. Quite a nice overall type.
