PAIGNTON & DFA 2024 – COCKER SPANIELS
I would like to thank the Secretary Mark Elliott and the Officers & Committee of Paignton & DFA for inviting me to judge at this friendly, well run show, and especially to my stewards Darren Pearson and Janeet Rice for looking after me so well and keeping the ring in excellent working order.
My sincere thanks to all exhibitors who considered me worthy of an entry, and accepted my decisions with good grace.
I found a couple of suspect mouths, and some exhibits were carrying far too much coat, with feathering flapping around, which hinders and detracts from movement. All males were correctly entire.

Light blue roan mature bitch, who has an adequate reach of neck, she is balanced in outline, with a good width of thigh and is well muscled, which enabled her to move well with a level topline.

Dark blue roan bitch with a sweet head and expression, her ribs are well sprung, and she is in good coat and condition, with a correct set on of tail, moved happily.

Gold baby of just 6 months, he has a lovely head for his age with dark pigment, he has a short, compact body with neat feet and well boned legs, moved well for one so young.

Promising black & tan baby with rich markings, also just 6 months but developing nicely, he’s not quite got the hang of things yet, but when he eventually settled he moved well.

Mature looking blue of 11 months, he has a masculine head with a gentle expression, and is well bodied with good bone and neat feet, he moved soundly with reach and drive and an ever wagging tail carried correctly. BPIB
2nd: 2403 ELLISON, Miss Sally Jane Withiflor Gentleman
Black of 11 months. He has an attractive head with a good depth of muzzle. Short coupled, in lovely coat and presentation, a little erratic on the move to start, but soon settled moving out well with correct tail carriage.

Orange and white boy of 15 months. Very well put together, with a good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. He moved with drive from well muscled legs, making good use of his tail.
2nd: 2485 WARRINGTON, Mrs Sue Eileen Zakova Santana
14 month black, masculine head, good width to front and depth of chest, excellent coat and presentation, lovely tail carriage, moved well.

Black of 18 months, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders along with width and depth of chest, nicely presented, lovely muscle tone allowing him to move out soundly holding a level topline.

Blue roan of 21 months, a heavier type to 1 but maturing nicely, clean in throat and soundly made all through, he moved out confidently.

Striking black, white and tan, who is well off for bone with plenty of substance, he has a good width of chest, forearm, and rear angulation, with a lovely wide rump. Moved well once settled.
2nd: 2402 ELLISON, Miss Sally Jane Withiflor Touchstone
Neatly presented black and tan with an attractive head and rich tan markings. He has a lovely outline, and is well bodied with good depth to his chest. Moved OK.

Really smart blue roan with a lovely, well proportioned head, dark eye and good stop, good depth of chest and tight elbows, correct angulation fore and aft with straight hocks which allowed him to move with ease and precision, holding a level topline with a lovely tail action. Moved out with real purpose covering the ground well. DCC

Masculine blue roan with lovely head proportions, he has tight elbows and a deep chest, his shoulders are well laid back and he has a good return of upper arm. Nicely presented in full coat, short below the hocks. Moved well once settled.

Blue roan with an attractive head and a gentle expression. He has a good return of upper arm and is short coupled with good ribs and lovely width throughout. He is well muscled which allowed him to move freely with a level topline.

This blue dog has a handsome head with depth of muzzle and good definition. He is well balanced with good angulation. On the move he held a level topline and is short below the hocks allowing for driving movement.
2nd: 2495 WILLIAMS, Mr & Mrs R & S L Sh Ch Wilmerella Outlander JW
Blue roan, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Level topline, with a good width of thigh. He initially acted up a bit but then held it together on the move striding out well.

Handsome orange roan of 9 years and in his absolute prime. He is put together so well with correct angulation front and back, creating a lovely outline. He moved straight and true with real enthusiasm, holding a lovely topline with an ever wagging tail. A real credit to his owner/handler RCC

Blue roan of 9 years with a happy disposition who moved with enthusiasm, he is well put together with substance, he stands on good legs and feet, short below the hock enabling him to move with drive. Finished off with lovely presentation.

Promising black of 7 ½ months who really caught my eye, she has a beautiful head leading to a lovely neck and shoulder, a good front and a short, compact body, with sound legs and feet. Lovely presentation for her age, she moved out really well for one so young, using her well set tail enthusiastically. Just my cup of tea!

Gold bitch also 7 months, she has a very pretty head with a lovely dark eye, neat angulation, great substance with a good width of thigh and a pleasing round rump, moved well when settled.

Blue of 9 months, she has a pretty head of good proportions with a sweet expression, she has well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm, she is well bodied with good ribbing, moved out with purpose.

12 months, just out of puppy, she is short and cobby with a good forearm, her neck flows into well placed shoulders, not quite as settled on the move as 1 but moved well eventually.

Black bitch of 20 months with the most lovely head and expression, built on smaller lines but in proportion, she has a good width of thigh and is well muscled throughout, allowing her to move out covering the ground well. Neat presentation.

Feminine blue roan who is short and compact with a lovely, level topline standing and on the move, with a good set on of tail. Her neat feet carried her well with good ground covering action.

Very happy blue roan bitch, she has a good reach of neck, and is short and compact with depth to her body. Short below the hocks which allowed her to move round the ring carrying herself well.
