My thanks to Birmingham National and their committee for my appointment and the hospitality offered on the day. My thanks to my stewards who did a magnificent job on the day without a break.

I always enjoy judging German Wirehairs and overall I found the dogs to be in a good fit condition. Movement on the day I found difficult to assess as many dogs, who i have watched moving well on other days, struggled to give a good account of themselves, either in profile or away and back. I also wasn't altogether happy with a couple of mouths which I thought were incorrect.

Class 77 SBD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 239 LEWIS, Mrs Debbie, Braithwaite Rory At Fallowfield, 13 month old l/w, nice eye, head could be more masculine, coat of reasonable texture but not close fitting, balanced in profile with moderate angulation front and rear, plenty heart room and moved ok

Class 78 MPD NO ENTRIES

Class 79 PD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

4 Pups at different stages of maturity, the first 3 being litter brothers and all were probably at the top of the height limit. All 4 could have won the class but my placings were of a result of the movement I saw on the day.

1st: 237 JOHNSTON, Mr Paul & JOHNSTON, Mrs Linda & JOHNSTON, Glenquin The General, 10 month old B/W and very mature for age. Balanced outline with correct angles front and rear, deep chest with plenty heart room, correct coat, moved with positive footfall in all directions. BP
2nd: 248 ROBSON, Mr And Mrs S. Glenquin Major At Yohenoak, found this young dog probably to be in the hardest condition of all today, very similar to 1,however, he doesn't have the depth of chest needed and hopefully, in time, his chest will drop.
3rd: 251 TURNBULL, Mrs E & TURNBULL, Mr G D & TURNBULL, Mis Glenquin The Colonel At Elagram
Res: 240 LOVATT, Mrs Debbie & LOVATT, Mr Paul & GETTINGS, M Beechillawn Break The Mould (ikc) Taf

Class 80 JD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 247 TOYNEBEE-SMITH, Ms Jemma Bareve Bronski Beat, 15 month L/W, liked his head and eye, liked his balance and front and rear angulation, correct coat. would have preferred a little less weight and stronger pasterns.
2nd: 248 ROBSON, Mr And Mrs S. Glenquin Major At Yohenoak, repeat

Class 81 PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 229 BROWN, Mrs Carole Matravers Cherokee, L/W,
2nd: 244 OBRIEN, Mr Alan & OBRIEN, Mrs Debbie & O'BRIEN, Mi Caldewriver Cold As Ice
Not a great deal between these 2, similar heads and body shapes. 1 was maybe a bit taller but preferred his reach and drive. 2 was a nice size overall, would have liked a little more muzzle and not the movement in profile of 1

Class 82 LD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 231 CHRYSTIE, Mrs B Bareve Best Done Now, L/W, been in the ring on several occasions with this boy, nice masculine head with enough beard, correct front angulation and moderate bend of stifle, correct length to height ratio, good shoulder placement, harsh correct coat, moved correctly in profile and on the away and back RCC
2nd: 232 BLANCO, Dr Elisa & OSBORNE, Dr David, Lux Vom Maibrook (Imp Deu),L/W, lots of good qualities to like about this male import, best of masculine heads with a kind eye, correct front with a strong neck, good depth of chest, correct length to height, excellent coat. For me, he doesn't have the drive from the rear he should have in profile movement.

Class 83 OD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
Both these dogs are worthy titleholders

1st: 238 JONES, Mrs Lisa & JONES, Mr LA, Sh Ch Mustwork Uland, L/W, dog I have watched from a youngster and admired. Strong, masculine male with great bone, correct medium size, neck flows onto good shoulders, straight front and correct length of upper arm, good length of rib, harsh correct coat, in hard condition and despite playing his handler up showed correct movement with reach and drive. DCC and BOB
2nd: 245 OCONNOR, Mr Karl Sh Ch Karlejay Gump They Live In Yu (a.i), L/W, slightly smaller all over than 1 but a good medium sized dog, easy mover around the ring and away and back, would have preferred a little less weight for the complete picture.
