I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the exhibitors who entered at the show, the committee were very complimentary about my entry figures!! Overall, I was very pleased with the quantity and quality of my entry, especially in my final overall winners. There are some key points I would like to highlight about our special breed. I believe we need to focus on these to ensure that we maintain the finer points of our breed in quality and type:

1)  Size,thebreedstandardstates“Height8-11inches”Ihavefeltforagoodwhilethat many are easily reaching or way over the top end of this scale. Whilst historically it may have been thought that larger means sounder, today I am glad to say that this is not the case. Papillons must be “dainty, well balance, little dog’s” I was so pleased that my main winners were well within the expected range.

2)  “Hare-like feet, fairly long with tufts of hair between toes”. This is a key breed point that makes this breed unique against many others, we must remember this when selecting for both show and breeding.

3)  Movementshouldbe“light,free-flowing,positiveandfreefromanyrestriction”this should accentuate the fine and dainty papillon, light footed butterfly that we all love.

Please bear these points in mind when selecting your show and breeding stock, if we do not then we will lose the refined breed typical points that make this breed special and will just create generic and plain dogs that are no longer “butterflies” or fitting of the breed standard.

WOW.... absolutely stunning tri colour puppy, just 6 months old and already looking a near perfect picture. This little bitch caught my eye from the moment that she entered the ring, she has a stunning head, perfectly sized and placed ears; which are mobile on the move. The ratio of muzzle to stop and skull for me is just perfection and just radiates breed type. She held and showed herself so well, perfect topline and tailset, whether stood or moving. When on the move, she had complete balance and effortlessly moved around the ring. At this point I really thought I might have found my Bitch CC winner from minor puppy! However, the quality today in the higher bitch classes, was very strong. I had absolutely no hesitation in awarding her Best Puppy in Breed (later taking Puppy Group 3!), I am excited to watch her future in the ring.

Red Sable and white stunning little butterfly, this little bitch screamed out to me when she entered the ring. Her head piece is just divine, short and finely abrupt muzzle, with well-defined stop, her ears are large rounded and mobile which just adds to the overall expression. This bitch did not put a foot wrong, stood or on the move, her tail was always over her back and carried correctly as was her topline strong and level.
