Best Special Beginner :

I would firstly like to thank the Birmingham National committee for inviting me to Judge this well-run and well organised show. I would like to thank all the exhibitors who entered under me, I was truly overwhelmed with my entry and I loved every second of this judging  appointment. I got my first Griffon at the age of 13. The main things I want is a cobby, square little dog,  lively and alert.  Temperament is so important. I am looking for a terrier like disposition. This was lacking in some, otherwise lovely dogs today. Rear movement is a real concern. Some lovely dogs had to stand second, due to lack of drive, however my overall winners, really were deserving and I felt I found what I was looking for.  Once again thank you all for your entries and for the sporting way you took your placings.

Class 2139 SBD NO ENTRIES

Class 2140 MPD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6076 FINLAY-KIRKWOOD, Mr G Fennymore Armani At Grajenco , well balanced red rough boy I loved his head and correct eye and nose placement, eyes dark and round with alert expression, he has a good spring of ribs for his age, and a short level back with well muscled hind quarters, that he put to good use on the move.  A very pleasing well-balanced boy that just needs time to fill out and mature. I’m sure he has a good future ahead of him.

2nd: 6082 HUGHES, Mrs Maria Louise Bruneaver Space Oddity From Beauborne, red smooth boy, clear redcoat even from route to tip, another well-balanced boy holding a level top line and a well set, well carried tail. He has a nice headpiece with dark brown eyes, a good turn up with a neat finish to his lips, he did not move out as confidently or freely as the first

1st: 6103 MERCER, Mrs Mary Ann & MERCER, Mr Peter Hierners Vidocq At Fennymore (imp) Naf Taf I absolutely fell in love with this young red rough boy, he is one I would’ve taken home. He is well balanced and cobby,  he has a wide deep chest,  with straight legs and correct bone, he has a lovely neck with well laid shoulders. He moves out well both front and rear,  lively and alert at all times holding a dead level top line, and well set well carried tail.  Now to his head,  large in comparison to body with dark clear eyes, black nose with wide open nostrils, he has a short wide muzzle with a good turn up and neat finish to his lips. There really is not much to not like about him. He oozes breed type and once settled he moved true coming and going. Although young today  I could not deny him the dog CC and best puppy, he pushed hard for best of breed just wasn’t settled enough on the move to beat the bitch.

Class 2142 JD (5 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 6114 DONNELLAN, Mrs Y J & ROBERTS, Mrs K. Kinder Surprise Rimarosa Vonici (imp Pl)  cobby red boy with a good rib, and correct bone, level top line with a well set tail, nice head rounded and moderately wide between his small high set ears,  nice muzzle with a definite stop and a neat finish to his lips, although he lacked drive from his rear I felt his overall quality and balance made him the class winner today.
2nd: 6120 SELBY, Mr Mark & WHITEHEAD, Miss Fiona & ALLEN, Mi Zilcan Action Man loved this red smooth with a short tight coat with even red from route to tip, love his size and shape. He has a good rib and correct bone, a level top line. He has a pleasing head with dark eyes, black nose with with wide open nostrils, and then a neat finish to his lips, today he was not moving with confidence or drive and dropping his tail on the stand, although a smart little dog I feel temperament is hugely important in this breed I am looking for lively and alert with a terrier like disposition so today he had to stand second

2nd: 6070 BLORE, Mrs Val H Movalian Firestorm I love the size and shape of this red rough dog,  he is cobby and well-balanced with a good spring of rib, and a level top line, he moved true both coming and going, his head looks slightly unbalanced as his head hair has been completely stripped out. I’m sure on other days these positions could change.
