Rough collies

Manchester 2024

Many thanks to the exhibitors for such a lovely entry of 110, much appreciated.

I found type to be varied , although size seemed more stable. The best classes of the day were without doubt the puppy classes and open dog but the limit bitch class was particularly outstanding today. Temperament was generally very good with one exception of a male who displayed worrying behaviour. Strength of rear movement needs to improve as quite a few lacked in this department

PUPPY DOG (13, 1 abs)

I feel the society and exhibitors would benefit for the additional of a minor puppy class for both sexes

1st Mitchell & Jordans Avonfair Aloysius, lovely sable who scored for his overall balance and collected movement. He’s a super size, good bone, masculine with a super expression. Well handled and presentation was excellent. A very promising young boy

2nd Blaikies Kourika The Gigolo , blue merle with nice head properties and neat ears. Coat slightly wavy at the moment. Not as forward and together as a total package as the winner but another very promising youngster non the less

3rd Lockyears Prince of Sunlight Thrilled by the Difference af Gataj

JUNIOR DOG (6, 1 abs )

1st A Aloysius

2nd Randalls Ladnar Makemeawinner, elegant looking blue whose colour I would prefer to be clearer but he has nice rich tan markings. Lovely tail and moved very soundly behind but his narrowness in front both on the move and in stance cost him the class. Well presented.

3Rd Ross Siluto Blue Wizzard

POST GRAD DOG (7, 1abs) a mixed class

1st Gelder Libanel Erebus Eternal Love, nicely sized tri with a good length of back who scored his win here on his overall balance and movement. He was presented well and was a lovely black with rich tan.  When moved on a loose lead he got into his stride, with a little but more experience to make the most of him his handler could have a bit of fun with him.

2Nd Vogan Luminous Moon over Lenosann, well bodied top size very masculine merle who is a beautiful colour and was well presented. Moved with drive. Longer in hock than the winner and stronger all through

3rd King Lynmead Prince of Love at Reserdon

LIMIT DOG (11, 1 abs ) close decision here

1st Lockyear Gataj Out of the Woods JW and 2nd Foy and Hawkins Beldones Rocket Man. The winner was carrying a better coat than the second and also in profile had a slightly better neck. Pigment needs to improve as this detracts from his expression at the moment. Rocket Man is better in ear carriage and had the better rounded foreface but slightly shorter in back than the winner. Not too much to separate them on the move. Two nice boys who will change places often I’m sure

3rd Grindleys Lanrue Blueberry Muffin

OPEN DOG (9, 1 abs ) Again a close decision

1st Graingers Ch Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo, superbly presented golden sable showman who looked every inch the ch he is. In super condition, and he moved steadily with ease. Quality head properties. Pleased to award him the Dcc and Best of Breed and he looked super in the group.

2nd Foy & Hawkins Beldones Toucher du Bois, very similar quality sable scoring in many areas to gain his place here and the rdcc. Banjo has the slightly leaner backskull but here is a boy that deserves to carry his title

3Rd Cronks Chelborn That’ll Do

VETERAN DOG (5, 2abs)

1st Mills Lynmack Starman at Lemivee, 8 year old attentive sable showman. Was more collected on the move than the second which gave him the class. Good ear set and expression. Well presented.

2nd Spendelows Uffspring Unmistakable Aws, 10 year old sable who had a better neck than the winner but not carrying the coat or able to challenge the winner for movement today. He showed well and enjoyed his day out

3rd Webbs Rashel Time is of the Essence at Shadowpark

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (7, 3 abs)

1st Toogoods Hanvale Ralph Lauren,  minor puppy scoring here for his overall quality. His handler will have a great deal of fun with this boy when he learns the ropes. Quality head properties and looking balanced for his age. Best special beginners in breed.

2nd Dix Barrenclough Diamond Skyes, even though this dog was more mature, he lacked the overall quality and angulation to challenge the puppy

3rd Gautreys Lillyway Landwind

PUPPY BITCH (14, 2 abs). A superb class and again such a shame that some lovely minors had to be up against more finished  puppies. Lets hope the show puts on minor puppy next time

1St Congdons Aaronwell Able Mabel, absolutely loved this girl, lovely head properties , sweet expression, good ears, good neck, good coat, moved so well, lovely temperament,  super size. The total package and will head to the upper house with maturity I’m sure. Best Puppy in Breed

2nd Foy & Hawkins Beldones Velvet Eyes. Very similar comments apply to this girl as for the winner. She is slightly longer in back than Mabel but the winner was slightly sweeter in expression. Another headed for the top drawer with maturity

3rd Walders Hanvale Patsy Stone

JUNIOR ƁITCH (7)

1ST Cronks Skabona If I saw you in Heaven, a superb blue who was an easy winner of this class. She is so classy and balanced in all respects and comes into her own on the move with such a powerful drive and correct footfall. In the challenge she couldn’t help but stand correctly every time I looked at her and I was delighted to award her the rbcc

2Nd Lockyears Gataj All that sparkles,  well presented sable who scored over the third with a slightly better eye but a very close “nit picking” decision. Very feminine ladies with comparable movement who could change places quite easily.

3rd Hawkins Brilyn shows the difference

POST GRADUATE BITCH (13, 2 abs )a very nice class

1st Blackburn & Jones Erjon Evolving Beauty, a well coated sable who stood out here for her balance and movement with such a strong drive from the rear. Liked her size and length of back. Good ears and head balance. A slight lack of pigment around the eyes detracts from her expression at the moment. She floated on the move and was close up in the challenge

2nd Edwards & Blucks Paulara Lucy in the sky for Elshajo, charismatic tri girl  who I’ve judged before and today was in full bloom and looked the part and still appealed greatly. Slightly shortly in back than the winner. Well handled and gained her place over a lovely blue on ear set and profile movement.

3rd Scott’s Torrino Renesmee for Chantique (Imp Ita)

LIMIT BITCH (16, 2abs)a stunnjng class

1st Randalls Ladnar Inkspot , very shapely tri who I had judged two years ago and liked immensely then. Today she was even better- a totally feminine package with a beautiful expression who when she moved just powered away from me with such positive movement. Presented in excellent coat and condition and  handled gently to get the best from her and today was her day indeed gaining the Bcc and as I was told later her well deserved title

2Nd Walker, Walker and Ritchies Starlenga Nina Simone.  Here was a stunning blue girl, a size larger than the winner and not quite her length of neck but such a beautiful correct colour with fabulous markings and such overall quality and balance.  She too moved extremely well and was superbly presented in top order. Unlucky to meet 1 in top form and I’m sure will have better days.

3rd Foy & Hawkins Beldones Magical Bliss

OPEN BITCH (6, 3 abs)

1St Walders Ch Hanvale Polly Shelby JW, here was another superbly presented sable who never let up showing for a moment. Such a classical looking girl with a charismatic air about her. Such a soft expression scoring in eye and front over the second. Looking a well deserved ch just not quite the sheer drive of my main winners today in the challenge

2nd Lockyears Gataj Good Time Girl, a quality very feminine sable who was a size smaller than the winner with a good neck, couldn’t match the front of one today. Well presented again by this owner as were all of this exhibitors dogs today.

3rd  Watkins& Cook Whatacoo Blaze of Glory

VETERAN BITCH (5, 2abs)

1st  Walders Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale JW another top quality ch who I’ve judged before and is now at full maturity at 7 years old. She was stunningly presented and moved with assurance. Lovely head properties  and she never let’s up showing. Pleasure to award her Best Veteran in breed

2Nd Beares Jemspark Maid in Secret. Another lovely sable who shows herself off to advantage. Shes a shade smaller all over than the winner and doesnt quite have her neck or power on the move but non the less is a lovely girl who again was presented well

3rd Vogans Lenosann Black Cherry

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH

1ST Mills Hanvale Edina Monsoon, a quality but raw minor puppy who was unplaced in the puppy class and is indeed litter sister to the special beginners dog winner gaining her place here on her head moulding and overall quality. Very sweet expression

2Nd Whitakers Siluto Blueberry Mist, although scoring on maturity the puppy scored in head properties. This blue girl could be a better colour and her tail carriage and wider ear set detracted

3rd Clark Kerrs Uffspring Uniquely Mayd for Whitecraigs
