YKC Handling Critique (Day 1)
YKC Handling Class 6-11 years (8,4a)
All of the young handlers in this class did a very good job which bodes well for the future of our sport.
1st: Freya Mitchell handling a Pug. This young handler was always talking to her dog, giving them words of encouragement throughout the class which was wonderful to see. She presented her dog very professionally and was always aware of my position. Good triangle and linework and she completed the final stack presentation efficiently and cleanly.
2nd: Layla Duncan handling a Tibetan Spaniel. Layla did a wonderful job with her young dog and made for a close decision - the winner just edged it with her more polished performance. A very gentle handler who stacked and moved her dog very well, constantly talking to them throughout. The youngest in this class today and no doubt with a bright handling future.
3rd: Alexa Logan
YKC Handling Class 12-17 years (10,4a)
This was a lovely class of handlers and all should be very proud of the way they handled and worked with their dogs.
1st: Alexis Kirkwood-Emery handling a Chinese Crested. Alexis was so calm throughout the class and had an excellent rapport with her dog. A quiet handler, you noticed the dog not her. Cleanly and clearly presented her dog’s bite, excellent linework on the move and presented her dog beautifully on the stack at all times.
2nd: Emily Moores handling a Shiba Inu. Another handler who let her dog shine with a quiet, sympathetic handling style. She presented her dog’s bite very well, giving vocal commands and encouragement throughout. Emily moved her dog at the perfect pace and stacked them accurately, knowing precisely how to show them to their best.
3rd: Scarlett Costello
YKC Handling Class18-24 years (5,1a)
Another lovely class to judge – it was good to see such natural handling by all.
1st: Elizabeth O'Brien handling a Tibetan Spaniel. Another handler who presented their dog quietly and calmly to complete a very polished performance throughout the class. Gently showed her dog’s bite, moved her dog with the perfect lead placement and no stringing up, and always had her dog stood beautifully after both the linework and in the final stack.
2nd: Leah Scales handling a Lhasa Apso. Leah was a very close second here and pushed the winner hard. She had such a lovely rapport with her dog. Presented the bite very cleanly, moved her dog at the right pace throughout, regularly talking to them, completing good linework and excellent presentation on the stack.
