Judging:
I would like to Thank the Committee for inviting me to Judge the YKC Handling Classes for Pastoral /Working/Terrier Day @ Leeds Championship Dog Show 2024.
Our future is bright with these keen youngsters, their Parents & Families must be so proud of them all.
We as an older generation should take some lessons from them. They were well turned out, supportive & courteous to each other, the Stewards & myself.
Thank you also to my lovely Stewards Roger & Janet, who had everything under control & kept the ring moving in a quiet, efficient manner.
YKC 6-11yrs 11/5
1st Myla Hanes (10) Handling a Bedlington Terrier. A confident, smart young lady, who answered my questions and listened carefully to my instructions.
Excellent pattern work with nice straight lines, all completed at the correct pace. A kind & gentle handler, who had a great rapport with her charge.
2nd Jacob Perfitt-Jones (7)
handling an Alaskan Malamute. A big dog to handle, but this young man handled his dog, in a kind & confident manner. Good pattern work & reasonably straight lines, which is hard to do with such a strong minded breed.
I can see a good partnership developing here.
3rd Arlo Topping (7) handling a Hungarian Puli. Presented his dog well on the table & answered my questions. He followed my instructions & moved his dog at the correct pace.
YKC 12-17yrs 7/5
1st Livia Boryc (13) handling a Samoyed.
A kind & confident young lady, she presented her dog perfectly, shadowing me calmly & talking to her charge. Always attentive & knew exactly where I was, but at the same time keeping an eye on her dogs position. The rapport between the two was lovely to see. I do appreciate a handler who talks to their charge, encouraging & reassuring in a quiet confident manner.
Clean, straight lines, moving at the correct pace.
2nd Daisy Nicolas (14) handling a Mastiff. Daisy certainly had to work hard, her charge was feeling the heat, but she did her utmost to encourage with kindness & never got frustrated. Excellent pattern work & she listened carefully to my instructions, answering my questions confidently.
3rd Megan Weepers (14) handing a Border Collie.
Another good handler, who did so in a quiet unassuming manner. Moving her charge at the correct pace, good pattern work & straight lines.
YKC 18-24 yrs
1st Chloe McDonald (22) handling an Australian Shepherd.
Another quietly confident handler, who ensured she got the best out of her charge. Excellent pattern work, straightest of lines.
Dog & Handler in perfect unison on the move. Keeping an eye on my position at all times, but not making it obvious.
2nd Willow Johnson (18) handling a Shetland Sheepdog. A polite, pleasant, kind handler. Willow was gentle & had her dog’s welfare at the forefront of her mind.
Answered my questions correctly, quick to spot I had moved her dogs foot whilst on the table. Once again excellent lines & moved her dog at the correct pace.
Well done.
