Judging: Beagle, Hound Group

A huge heartfelt thanks to all exhibitors who took the time to enter their hounds under to me today.  It is never lost on me the privileged position to award CC’s in our breed, for which I am deeply honoured.  I would also like to thank the officers & committee for their kind invitation to judge and to my two wonderful ring stewards who were so efficient. Most exhibitors took my decisions with good grace.  Having drawn a super entry, I was delighted with my main winners in both sexes and took great delight with both line ups especially the consistency of the bitches at the end of the day. Majority of the hounds were well presented, in good condition and the best of temperaments. The future of the breed seems bright with some very promising puppies in the younger classes and difficult decisions were made throughout the classes with many quality hounds placed down the line.

Minor Puppy Dog (6/0):
What a super class to start the day!
1.  Jones & Jepson’s Eardley Trot On; at just over 6-months, this super tri dog excelled in type and soundness. Still very much a raw baby, but one with a smart outline from nose to tail. Lovely head with graceful long leathers. Well-laid back shoulder, excellent topline and short coupling. Very clean front and back and covered the ground with ease for one so young. All quality through and through, who as he matures will have a super future ahead of him.
2.  Jones’ Clairdale Grantchester; this t/w 8 month male had an excellent head for his age without coarseness and such a melting expression/eyes. Good reach of neck into a quality well held topline. Nicely built all through with a strong loin and well set stern. Move with ease and purpose. Pushed 1 hard for top spot in this competitive class.
3.  Tanner’s Felinoak Griffyn (ai).

Puppy Dog (6/0):
1.  Havard’s Annavah Justify; at nearly 12 months this broken tri dog is in top condition and excellent muscle tone. Presents a lovely outline on the stack. Soft but masculine clean head topping a cracking neck and shoulders. Good depth of chest, well-ribbed back and compact loin. Super turn of stifle, stern correctly set and well carried on the move. Clean front and back and moved with excellent front reach and driving quarters. Was pushed hard for BPD by the MPD, but maturity prevailed. BPIB.
2.  Diamond & Carruther’s Kelcardi All Fired Up; another in great muscular condition. Nice head with good pigment and depth of flews. What a length of neck this lad had, which was clearly indictive of his well laid back shoulder and super upper arm with tightest of elbows. Nicely ribbed back and well set stern. Excellent profile movement covering plenty of ground.
3.  Jones & Jepson’s Eardley Party Boy.

Junior Dog (9/2):
1.  Bank’s Forgebanks Santiano; masculine t/w male with a super-rich coat in the fittest of condition. Balanced angulation front and back. Impressive return of upper arm, nicely sprung ribs, strong loin. Super bend of stifle and hocks well let down. Excelled with strong muscle tone who carried himself with such purpose around the ring whilst holding his strong, level topline.
2.  Lewis’s Fallowfield Romeo; this boy had the most wonderful head with the best of expressions and defining pigment outlining his melting eyes, could look at him all day. Moved out well with driving quarters.

1.  Cornell’s Braveair Pawsforthought From Bronllys; lovely male of 11 months who has a soft head that is nicely balanced, expressive dark eye and with super long leathers. Nicely angulated from and back and very good spring of rib. He would benefit from losing some weight as he was a little podgy around the middle.  That said he was still is good muscular condition, moved soundly from all angles. BSpBIB

3.  Jones’ Clairdale Fusilier

Open Dog (4/0):
1.  Parker & Steven’s Ch Serenaker Armani; having judged this hound before I was delighted to judge him once more today. At almost 4 years, he has matured beautifully and blossomed into such a super stallion hound without any coarseness whatsoever. I commented previously he moved like the proverbial wind, now he moves with poise and unwavering balance with effortless ground coverage and soundness in all directions. He has the most expressive of heads, which whilst masculine but very much without coarseness that I could easily look at all day. Excellent reach of neck and lay back of shoulder. Good depth of chest and well-ribbed back. Compact loin with superb quarters. DCC.
2.  Lewis’ Fallowfield Fellman; another quality hound from the top drawer! He has a wonderful quality head that is so typical, dark eye, good depth of flews and balance of foreface to back skull. Super depth of chest framed by his quality angulation that is equally matched in his powerful quarters. Good return of upper arm, tight elbows and correct bend of stifle. Very sound fore and aft, great profile movement with super balanced reach and drive. Considered for top-honours today and close decision for the RDCC.
3.  Breeze’s Parkebreeway Wyseman JW.

Special Working Dog (0)
No entries.

Veteran Dog (4/0):
1.  Phillips & Keyte’s Lanesend Segenhoe JW Sh.CM; another I have had the honour of previously judging, he topped up a lovely class of super older hounds who are such great ambassadors of the breed!. Still in the fittest of conditions, this broken tri certainly continues to move with such spirited verve. A kind expression and melting eye, his head is as charming as ever. Nicely angulated front and back, well maintained topline and short coupling. BVD.
2.  Dawson & Goohall’s Ch Janfrey Randal Upon Rundle JW Sh.CM VW; contrasting in type to 1 at just shy of his 11th birthday, this super handsome tri male of great, balanced proportions who projected a stamp of quality. Nicey built all through, excellent lay back of shoulder, great depth of chest and strong topline. Sadly he was not moving his best today as his rear quarters were a little uneven in profile.
3.  Hunt & Norris’s Ch Shercroft Apollo JW Sh.CM.

Stands very well over her front with nicely tight elbows. Moves very well at all angles with plenty of ground coverage. BPB.

Excellent pigment highlighting her clean head with correct dome of skull and ear set. Arching lengthy neck flowing into correct shoulders, good depth of chest and short coupling. Great bend of stifle, with good muscle tone. Despite her glowing virtues, she needs a good talking to as lost out on BPB for her silliness on the move.

1.  Tanner’s Ch Felinoak Ffansi Nansi JW; this glamourous flashy broken tri bitch exudes breed type and quality, she stood a picture filling the eye with the most flowing of outlines. She has such an expressive head with long leathers and dark pigment topping a good length of neck that seamlessly flows to her base of tail. Very sound fore and aft, with a well set stern and perfectly carried topline. 3.  Kingsland & Steven’s Redcap The Loco Motion With Talbotrise.

Open Bitch (5/0)
1.  Havard’s Ch Annavah Princess Tiana; this wonderful tri bitch is so beautifully constructed with the most balanced of angulation. She has a very feminine head with excellent pigment and expressive eye. Reaching neck leading into well laid back shoulder. Tight elbows, good depth of chest, compact loin and correctly set tail. She was such a delight to go over and judge. This girl is so sound and had very little trouble covering the ground with ease around the ring, I just felt she was a little flat today. That said, I could not deny her the RBCC amongst a strong stellar line up.
2.  Breeze’s Ch Dufosse Dragonfly Of Parkebreeway JW; a bitch I have previously awarded a RCC to and is still as virtuous as ever with her glamourous outline. Wonderful head and hard to ignore length of neck leading to nicely sculptured shoulders and matching quarters. Level topline and well set stern. In the fittest of condition. Very clean up and down, but felt today she was not quite moving on her usual form as I would have preferred her to cover a little more ground that I know she can so easily do!
3.  Stuart’s Kellitcreed Frozen Assets.

Special Working Bitch (1/0):
1.  Arden’s Madika Spot On JW Sh.CM AW(P) VW; having judged this bitch a couple of times previously, she never fails to put a smile on my face. Her rapport with her owner/handler is just great to see and judge. Whilst she stood alone in this class, she placed a very commendable 2nd in the following class in strong competition. At 9 years old, this super feminine brightly open marked girl moves like a hound a fraction of her age with great ground coverage. Excellent depth of chest and well ribbed back. Short coupled without any excessive tuck-up. Superb bend of stifle and with excellent strength in her rear quarters.

Veteran Bitch (9/1):

She has a lovely soft expression with dark eye and the longest of leathers. Wonderfully balanced angulation front and back, level topline full of strength without any coarseness whatsoever. On the move she absolutely shines, moving with excellent reach and drive. Another considered for top honours. BVB & BVIB.
2.  Arden’s Madika Spot On JW Sh.CM AW(P) VW. 1st in previous class.
3  Breeze’s Davricard Hummingbird Of Parkebreeway Sh.CM.
