Houndshow 2024 Pharaoh Hounds
Thank you to the Houndshow committee for inviting me to judge at their 2024 championship show. Thank goodness the weather held until judging was completed.
Junior dog:
1st. A.Cole’s Doucai’s Kercem - Quite a tall youngster with a decent head, level and with slight stop. Good underjaw. Ears were a little soft but were up and holding well. Good crested neck into well angulated front. Short backline and ribbing. Balanced angulation on the rear. Movement got better as he settled but lacking reach in the front.
Open dog:
1st. S.Hansen Bazinga Make Mine a Double, of which he did on the day winning CC & BOB and then Best In Show.
Smart dog which I could not fault. Head was correct and balanced as was the rest of him. Moderate angulation front and rear which afforded him to move with straight parallel lines coming and going and side gait had feet placed correctly without crossing as so many so nowadays. Overall a picture of a well balanced moderate dog in great condition and definitely depicted the breed standard to a tee. Nice to see that he is from a male that I have previously awarded best male in Sweden.
His 3rd CC today and the icing on the cake to go BIS.
Veteran dog:
1st. C.Dawson’s Ch.Kurriera Orlando At Lyncris - I have always admired this male and have judged him in previous years. Still showing the quality and soundness that is so lacking in the breed today. Beautiful head and ear placement with correct eye shape and colour. Moderately angulated both front and rear. Holding a good strong topline. Straight feet and pasterns and parallel hocks. Well ribbed and correct length of loin. Movement was straight and precise with no deviation. Happy to award him res CC.
Junior bitch:
1st. N & P.Lloyd’s Doucai’s Fontana of Athanasius - Pretty bitch with a good head shape. Dark eye and good teeth. Balanced angulation not overdone. Good coat texture, sadly lacking in much of the breed today. Straight limbs, pasterns and with correct feet. Moved steady and sound.
2nd. A.Hartley & M.Cannon’s Doucai’s Pixxispad - Different type to the others from this kennel but with some good points. I liked her head shape as it was slightly longer than 1st. Feminine with good eye and ear shape. Lacking in front fill but with decent angulation. Needs to fill out and muscle up with age. Pasterns at this point were a little down and need strengthening. Overall a pretty picture. Movement was a little erratic but when settled showed promise.
Post Graduate bitch:
1st. S.Robert’s Celt’ and Dac Unlimited For The Charme - Feminine bitch with good overall balance. Nice clean head with parallel lines and slight stop. Good ears set and eye shape. Dentition good. Moderate angulation front and rear but needs more front fill. Nice type of hound but her movement let her down by throwing her front out to the sides coming and going. Needs to develop and settle.
Limit bitch:
1st. A.Hartley & M.Cannon’s Kurriera Sapphire Queen - Very nice type of hound. Good head shape with correct ear set and eye shape. Good dentition. Long slightly arched neck which flowed into good moderate angulation. Shoulder well laid back. Limbs straight and parallel. Good coat type. Correct length of ribbing and loin and moderate rear angles. Moved very nice in the class holding a strong topline. Happy to award her the res CC and had she moved with more reach and drive in the challenge she would have pushed the CC winner hard.
Open bitch:
1st: S.Hansen’s Multi Ch. Bazinga’s Khaleesi The Dragon Queen - Nice type, very feminine and elegant. Good head shape with moderate stop. Ears well set on and correct eye shape. Balance angulation front and rear but a little soft in pastern. Hocks well let down and strong. Good ribbing and length of loin. Looked quite a picture. Movement was close behind and in front almost single tracking but from side view, good ground coverage and feet placement. CC. RBOB.
