Spanish Water Dogs

Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs under me, for my first time giving CCs, in a breed I have been interested and involved in for over 10 years. Some lovely examples to go over and worthy CC & RCC winners. Temperaments were overall very good. Heads were good, with open nostrils, correct bites and good medium sized dropped, rounded v shaped ears. Super coats, which could be seen in even the more recently clipped dogs. Balance is very important in the breed, being slightly longer than tall and moderately angulated. A trend creeping into many gundog breeds is being short in upper arm and long in lower thigh (straight in front and over angulated behind), this results in a “flashy” uphill movement, which is incorrect for the robust SWD whose brisk athletic movement allows him to work all day without wasting energy.

1. ABRAHAMS, Ms Jennifer & ABRAHAMS, MR JAMES Adormidera Ziggy Star Dust Lovely Veteran. Black, tailed, dog of nearly 8 years. Larger framed boy. Breed typical parallel head planes, slightly shorter muzzle, dark eyes and nose pigment, kind expression. Short muscular neck, well laid back shoulder. Deep chest, well sprung ribs. Firm level topline. Longer in body than height. Moderately angulated fore and aft. Strong bone and tight feet. Correct coat texture of a good length to show the cords. Carrying a bit much weight today. Moved soundly with powerful drive. BV

1. DARWESH, Mrs Jo & DARWESH, Miss Eliza S Chanderhill Smart Edition For Elizad Cracking youngster so typical of this kennel. Bob tailed black and white boy. Presented in muscular condition today and with a well maintained coat of correct texture. Lovely head and expression. Short muscular neck leading to well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Level back, slightly longer than tall. Chest deep with well sprung ribs, short strong loin. Straight legs of a good length, tight elbows, round, tight feet. Strong bone and masculine but not overdone. Moderately angulated and well muscled hindquarters, well developed second thigh, well let down hocks. Super temperament. Brisk, athletic movement with plenty of drive. Expertly handled and at one with his handler today. Well deserved RCC & BP in great company today.
2.GLAYSHER, Mrs C & THOMPSON, Ms Kirstie Cooishka Wake Up Boo Brown bob tailed boy. Correct head proportions. Kind expression. Taller and leaner with plenty of maturing to do. Excellent coat texture. Moderately angulated fore and aft. Well let down hocks. Round tight feet. Sound movement. Not showing himself off to advantage today.

1. RAMSHAW, Mrs Judith & RAMSHAW, Mr Guy Valentisimo's Rolex White, tailed dog of 21 mths. Although he stood alone there was a lot to like about this boy. Correct head proportions with hazel eye and pale pigment to match his coat. Lovely front profile, good depth and breadth of chest, neat tucked in elbows, straight legs of strong bone, round tight feet. Well sprung ribs, short strong loin. Well angulated hindquarters, well let down hocks. Excellent coat texture, just starting to cord. Moved well.

1. WOOD, Mrs Jan Pabiagas Sergio Sinduda JW Brown and white 23mth bobbed boy. Another quality dog. Super head and expression. Larger framed boy but still in proportion. Short muscular neck, well laid shoulder. Straight strong legs, round tight feet. Good depth of chest with well sprung ribs. short strong loin. Level back. Moderately angulated hindquarters with well let down hocks. Super rustic coat of correct woolly texture, cords forming.  Brisk athletic movement.

1. PREECE, Mr Ashley & COOPER, Mr Jake Sh Ch Janamorio Northern Arlo Impressive robust brown and white bobbed boy. On top form today. Strong, masculine but not overdone. Head of correct proportions, very expressive. Short neck into well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Tight elbows. Straight, strong legs. Round tight feet. Chest deep and broad with well sprung ribs. Short strong loin. Well muscled hindquarters, well developed second thigh, well let down hocks. In shorter coat but still of correct texture. Expertly handled. Movement brisk and athletic with powerful drive. CC & BOB in excellent company today.
2. HODGKINSON RUTHERFORD, Dr K & RUTHERFORD, Mr M Sh Ch Zorrazo Hey There Yogi Bear White and brown bobbed boy. Another super example of the breed, whom I have given top honours to in the past. Smaller stature than 1 but still correctly proportioned. Kind expression. Moderately angulated fore and aft. Level back. Deep, broad chest with well sprung ribs. Short strong loin. Straight legs with well tucked in elbows. Round neat feet. Excellently presented in fit muscular condition. Rustic, corded, curled coat of woolly texture. Just lost out on movement today.

Lovely bitch, I am pleased to see that she is already a Sh ch at this young age. Super head and expression, short neck into well laid shoulder. Robust but feminine. Deep chest with well sprung rib, short loin, level back. Straight leg with strong bone, tight elbows, round tight feet. Moderate hind angulation with well let down hocks. Presented in muscular condition with an excellent curled woolly coat of rustic appearance with good length of cords. Sound, brisk and athletic movement with powerful drive. CC
2. CAPILLE, Mrs Rachel Lendever You Snooze You Lose Brown bobbed 18mth old. Longer cast and leaner than 1. Very feminine, pretty head with kind expression. Moderately angulated. Tight elbows. Well ribbed back. Straight legs of strong bone. Level back. Recently clipped but coat texture evident. Moved soundly.
