I had a thoroughly enjoyable day judging German Shorthaired Pointers at Darlington Championship Show on Saturday 14th September 2024.
It was a cold start to the day, but the sun made an appearance mid-morning and it soon made a comfortable temperature for both handlers and dogs.
I would like to thank Darlington Dog Show Society Ltd. for a very warm welcome and a very well-run show. It is quite a while since I have judged German Shorthaired Pointers but having run a breed club for many years, I know how much work goes into running this event.
I was incredibly pleased to see that the dogs I had the pleasure of going over today were very true to their breed. All were sound, in excellent coat and had gentle and calm temperaments. A credit to their breeders.

1st: 2432 SCHONEVILLE, Mrs R Balvenie Double Diamond JW. Dog CC & BOB. I felt this dog was very good in all departments. Powerful rear quarters, deep chest, correct top line and tail set, plus a soft and gentle expression - that I loved. He stood out from the crowd especially on the move. Head held high, tail carriage held straight and proud. Masculine without being coarse.
2nd: 2441 SIELSKI, Mrs Z Sh Ch Orchidstar Bolts Of Speed. Another very good looking dog, noble of head with a kind expression. Short straight back, correctly positioned tail. Depth and breadth of chest in proportion.

2nd: 2448 STALEY, Ms Clare Jomeel Pink Fizz. Smaller than the 1st placed dog. Not long out of puppy and she still looks a bit too small, although conformation is not a problem. She has a good coat and moved well. She now only needs to body up.
Class 996 PGB (6 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 2450 SYMMERS, Mr Stuart Kinlochmhor Rowanberry. A very nice eye-catching bitch, true to the breed standard. Good conformation, well laid shoulders, deep chest. Good, straight top line and well angulated stifles.
2nd: 2404 ELRINGTON, Ms D Tequesta Happy Valley. It was very difficult to choose between the 1st and 2nd in this class. This bitch also has as fantastic outline. It was not until I looked at what was behind these dogs when doing this critique that I realised the reason is that they are both from working lines. I do hope they go on to become Champions. I am sure they should. 3rd: 2392 BROWN, Miss Elanor & BROWN, Mrs Victoria Montalba Miss Aching.
Res: 2453 THOMSON, Ms S Sarscottah Enchanted.

I sincerely hope she makes it to Champion in the show ring.
