Kao Miich, Monamour Jack russell terriers

First of all, I am very honored to judge the Jack Russell Terriers at City of Birmingham and would like to thank the show committee for inviting me and to all exhibitors that entered and showed their dogs in exquisite condition to me. The atmosphere at the show was amazing.
I enjoyed every moment of judging my beloved breed.

As a breeder judge, I judged the breed with this priority:

1.  Correct proportion
The breed must not be “square looking” or “off square looking”.
The length of the body should be slightly longer than the height, it means the dog should have proper fore-chest. And they must look rectangular and 50:50 from the withers to the elbow (bottom of the chest) and elbow to the ground.

“Slightly longer body than the height” and “50:50” are the golden rule for the breed, so this is my number 1 priority.

Type and balance are of great importance for me.
Some dogs seem to lose the visible fore-chest which made the dog look square shaped.

2. My second priority is the movement. Jack Russell Terrier should have “reach and drive” without restriction.

This is what I call “functional”. I prefer a dog that moves with reach and drive. A poor mover is never constructed well.

*I noticed some young males looked very feminine. Male dogs should look masculine, and the female must look feminine.

This is the reason some dogs looked nice but did not place higher in their classes.
Also, some young males looked much smaller than what I expected for their age, I was very surprised about this and asked the handlers several times about their dog’s age.
A few dogs had very light-color eyes, and some had round shaped eyes which should be noticed.

I think the problem with “overly houndish ears” has been improve drastically but still a few with them, this could be improved in the next generation. The ear size and shape should be small and neat.

1st: 5116 HARRIS, Miss Caroline Kulawand Wicked Womble

Good sized dog for his age. Correct type of broken coat.
His body was lithe, flexible, spans easily. He could have visible fore-chest which would give him enough length of body.
Correct proportioned head with dark eyes, neat v-shaped ears making him a good expression. he could have filled cheek muscle. A little weak in behind on the move but keeping correct topline whilst moving. Nice low hock. He carries himself well when moving.

2nd: 5165 WALLS, Mrs Simone & WALLS, Miss Rebecca Tiltser Marsielle
Well presented male who spans easily. He has the best texture of coat for his age, Moves well with sufficient reach and drive. Could be half finger length shorter in loin. Lovely shaped head which was masculine. Dark enough eyes strong muzzle and underjaw. He could have smaller, neater ears. Overall, he is a very promising young dog.

Puppy Dog (9,2)
Class 2237 PD (9 Entries) Abs: 2

What a class of quality puppies! I could see huge improvement of the breeding in this country during such a short period. When these PUPPY DOGS all lined up in my ring, I felt so happy to see the quality of all. These young dogs are the future. Kudos to all the breeder’s effort to make the breeds future bright!

1st: 5159 TATE, Mrs K & NAGRECHA, Mr Aaron Chandlimore Play Boy at Jaeva

Once this puppy came into my ring, he showed the very correct type of the JRT. Although he is still immature puppy, he has good substance of a small terrier with typical positive temperament. He has 50:50 proportioned from the withers to the elbow and elbow to the ground. The chest was not too deep not to light, decent for his age. His length from the shoulder point to the buttocks were slightly longer than the height. Correct proportion in overall. The head proportion from the occiput to the stop and stop to the nose was correct, His eyes were dark enough and well-muscled cheeks. Muzzle was not too short or snippy, strong muzzle with good underjaw and correct scissors bite. Everything was balanced well. He has the proper angle and length of the upper arms and the shoulder which made him move with enough reach. His hock was not too high and has correct angulation in the hindquarters which gave him a strong drive from behind. He could have better coat, but I forgive this since it was still puppy coat. It could be improved with age and coat work. He moved as if he enjoyed walking on the sky, moving freely without any restrictions. This was the reason I gave him Best of Breed.
Proportion and Functional are the important key of this breed.
I was lucky to judge this dog in the puppy age, I hope to see him again int the future when he has matured.

2nd: 5098 ADDOO, Miss L J & ADDOO, MISS J Reulemill Quacajack

Broken coat male with well balanced body and sound movement. Correct proportion of body which looked rectangular. (Not too long, slightly longer in body) His head could be developed with age but nice shape. Dark expressive eyes and neat ears. Good body and topline on move. Carries himself when moving. I think he has a very promising future.

Eye catching male with lovely temperament. Well proportioned body with super coat and condition. Almost perfect texture of the weatherproof coat. Correct proportion of the head with beautiful dark eyes and neat v shaped ears. He has a correct proportion with the substance. Good tail set.
Could have better movement of reach and drive with extension. He could have longer in upper arms and well laid-back shoulder which give him reach and drive. He could have more size for a 2-year-old male. But overall, he is a nice example of the breed. dog.

2nd: 5106 BAILEY, Mrs I.M. & HUSEBY, Mrs M Hunterhawk Bjorn Borg
This dog was the best mover in the class. Although his good movement, he did not stand himself well. He could have better confidence in the ring but once he moved, he moved effortless. He has sufficient reach and drive, hold the topline well. Very dark eyes and correct proportion of the head. He could have better coat and condition, and the tail could be set higher. For his age, he could be a bit more masculine. He could be better trained to stand well.

1st: 5135 KINCHIN, Mrs J Kulawand Mini's Mischief
Correct sized smooth coat female who has the very correct proportion in body.
The length of the body was slightly longer than the height.
The length from the withers to the elbow (bottom of the chest) is equal to the length from the elbow to the ground.
Very correct length and the angle of the upper arms and the shoulder.
In my experience, smooth coat jacks tend to have upright shoulders but this bitch
never has that upright shoulders and poor front assembly.
The front was not too wide, not too narrow. Enough length in upper arms and well laid back shoulder. And she has strong hindquarters.
She had the plenty of reach and drive.Moves well with good carriage, the tail could be straighter and could have the better topline on move.
She has the very correct proportion of the head , muzzle is not snipe.
Dark in pigment. Very nice smooth bitch which I appreciate for the breed future.

2nd: 5137 LOWE, Mr Richard Wilsford's Que sera sera

She sometimes showed bit wide in front when she got too excited. But once she settled, she moved correct from front and behind.
I found her very promising for the future.
Coat texture could be harsher but it can improve with age.

When she came into my ring, I did not really notice her as she did not stand well with attitude.
