Judging:

My thanks to the committee of Bournemouth for this kind invitation to award a my first set of CCs to Newfoundlands, a breed I have been around for many years. I must thank the two people responsible for introducing me to Newfs, encouraging me and supporting me over many years, the late Mr Hedd Richards and Del. Hedd was not only a wise and kind mentor, he was also a friend who would happily spend hours discussing the breed, and in fact many breeds, with me. I will miss his feedback, I’m sure he was watching. Thank you to all the exhibitors for your entries, it was a hot day and important to keep the dogs in the shade as much as possible, even though it was a little cramped, thank you for your patience; it was a pleasure to meet all your lovely dogs.

1st: GIAMBONA, Dr G Masterpiece Of Balkan Surprise For Trinashores (imp)

A raw baby with so much potential and a lovely character. Really impressed with his sound free stride for one so young. Well balanced and compact with good bone, head typical for his age with a nice big nose and good bite, neck well set and balanced angulation with a firm back and loin, tail of good length and well carried, stands on nice feet and strong in hock. Gave a really good account of himself here and in the PG later, BP.

1st: APLIN, Miss Deanne Green Pearl Under The Stars Avec Angelscove (imp FRA)

Impresses for overall balance with a very nice outline and correct proportions. Well shaped head with a good breadth of muzzle, a little lippy, a little loose in eye but should tighten with maturity, strong length of neck well set on to correct shoulders, straight parallel fore limbs, well ribbed with depth of brisket and muscular in body and rear. Well boned and stands on tight feet with well rounded rear. Active and free on the move, sound with good reach and drive holding a firm topline RCC.

2nd: CANNING, Mr G And Mrs R Glenn And Rosie & RENNISON Oukaya Forever Ursa Minor (imp)

Well marked W&B with scope and reach in side gait but a little untidy coming toward, plenty of time to tighten up as he is a strong and powerful dog, masculine in head with a lovely expression, a little lippy, lots to like and quality, compact with good proportions, more moderate in angulation than 1 but balanced, strong bone and compact feet, firm in body with breadth to loin, in good coat and a really nice dog who just needs time.

A very mixed class which made for difficult decisions.
1st: MCPHAIL, Mrs Julie Anchorbrook Aye Aye Cap'n

Powerful looking dog with excellent substance, bone and feet. Broad, well shaped head with balance to muzzle, a little overdone in ears and lip, strong and well set neck of good length giving good head carriage, good length of leg with muscular shoulders, well laid back, slightly long in loin, powerful rear with firm hocks, moved out well, effortless in side gait with tail well carried.

2nd: CARTER, Miss Frances Zentaur The Fizz Factor ShCEx

A well grown male, with a broad clean head and neat ears, almond dark eye with kind expression, lighter in build than 1, well angulated and balanced and shorter in loin, not as mature in body with brisket to drop but plenty of time, bone ok for his size, a happy chap and gay with his tail, well presented and in lovely coat, I just preferred the cleaner front movement of 1 today.

Class 1990 LD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: HUNT, Mr J & Mrs Angela Zentaur Jam Master Joy
Very appealing strong and active brown of good depth of colour who was in contention for RCC, clean head with tight eye, colour toning to coat, neat well set ears and tight lips. Nice balance of skull to muzzle, good neck and outline, well proportioned and angulated with good depth through chest and body, broad loin, great bone, stands and moves true, tail could be better but a minor detail for me when considering the whole dog, preferred the freer action of the JD in the challenge.

Class  OD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: BLAKE, Ms S Ch Sandbears Masterpiece
Judged this male as a junior in a dog of the year event, sent him through as my overall winner and he was BIS on the decision of the referee, so impressive for balance and strength yet nothing overdone or cumbersome. He’s not the biggest but has impressive power for his frame and is totally unexaggerated and sound. Well-shaped and proportioned head which fits his body, small well set ears, clean skull and muzzle with tight lips and correct colour and set of eyes to give that ‘aahh’ expression. Good reach and set of neck giving proud head carriage, well laid shoulders, bone strong and again matches his frame, large, tight feet, deep and broad all through the body and rear with croup slightly sloping and broad thighs. Drove off sound hocks, effortless reach and power, maintained his outline at all times, he was fit, muscular, with well presented dense coat CC, BOB and later topped a very strong WG shortlist to take WG1, congratulations.

Quality young b, in her bikini but it just served to show off her lovely shape, strong but feminine with a good clean overall outline, super dark eye, clean skull and muzzle well balanced and broad and small ears, good length of neck, compact body and sufficient depth for age. Shoulders muscular and well laid with broad back, well ribbed with well rounded rear. Free and easy on the move, covered the ground effortlessly, strength and style here, pushed hard for the CC, her day will come RCC, litter mate to RDCC, congratulations to the breeder.

LB (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: COLDWELL, Miss Elaine & COLDWELL, Mr Gary & COLDWE Twillin Gate Villustrious Among Zentaur (imp Be)

Quality girl of good size and substance, well boned with good proportions,  well shaped broad skull proportionate to her size, would prefer more width and strength of muzzle to balance, dark eye, a little round and hard in expression, scored in neck and shoulders, can develop a little more in chest but still young, has good width and width through the back and loin, held a firm topline with excellent strength of rear, sound and easy mover, powerful in side gait, a little loose in front but has plenty of time, well coated and beautifully presented.

2nd: 4220 BULL, Mr & Mrs Trevor And Sally King Of Helluland Blue Organza

Another very nice bitch, close up to 1, heavier in head but still retaining femininity with a warm expression, excellent bone, well muscled throughout, with plenty of depth, strong through the body and loin, well angulated front and rear, moved out well holding a firm topline, good power in side gait, tail a little high, good coat and presentation.

OB (6 Entries) Abs: 0

Class full of quality with outstanding bitches, a pleasure (and a headache) to judge

1st: FARRAR, Mrs K J & FARRAR, Mr Alan Ch Disoranto Juliana Blue At Darkpeak (imp Pol) JW

In full bloom, heavier in head than the other girls but retains femininity and it is proportionate to her frame, harmonious with quality and ring presence, powerful with the strength and construction to do her job particularly in prosternum which was less so in many today, eyes a good colour with an engaging expression but could be a fraction tighter, ears set well back. Lovely length of neck and super forehand, well boned, perfectly parallel legs and tight feet, complementary rear angulation, firm in hock and good topline. Very nicely presented and handled well on the move at the right pace to show off her balanced movement. A little untidy coming toward but overall gait was powerful, effortless and very efficient which gave her the class, bloom and maturity of body won her the CC.

2nd: 4224 COLDWELL, Miss Elaine & COLDWELL, Mr Gary & COLDWE Ch Zentaur This Is Jam Hot (ai) JW ShCEx OSW

Feminine good colour brown in excellent condition, eyes to match coat, typical and well balanced without any exaggeration, broad skull and proportionate strong muzzle, small ears, correctly set, kind expression. Well off for bone, straight front with width of forechest, deep brisket and good spring of ring, firm in back and loin with a nice width of thigh moved out freely with plenty of reach and drive showing power and scope, a different type to 1 but very impressive. Preferred her side profile movement over 3 who was another outstanding b and very worthy champion.

3rd: 4219 BULL, Miss Marie Ch Sandbears What Ya Fancy At Ravenshore

10 years and in great physical and coat condition, good size with substance and balance, and a lovely overall profile, strong, feminine head not overdone at all and a gentle expression. Good neck and front, she was well-muscled, with a strong loin and deep, broad chest. Moved well with drive, power and enthusiasm BV.
